Cost of living allowancs,

Point which I cmitted to mention in

telegram under reference is that Hong Kong officers have to provide both winter and

summer clothing, Malayan officers only require light clothing. In view of the high cost of both kinds of clothing, this factor is of importance in any comparison.

2. Grateful for early reply as Senior Officers, and particularly those who have hitherto had free quarters, cannot be sakod to exercise their option until they know what cost of living allowance will be granted to them on the revised terms.
